An athlete is at a much greater risk of another ankle sprain for 2 years after an initial ankle sprain. Rehabilitation exercises focusing on balance and proprioception results in a 2-3 fold decrease in risk after 8 weeks of exercises; also, ankle braces can decrease your risk by 3-4 fold.
