Regenerative Medicine is the branch of medicine that works to repair, regenerate, or replace damaged tissue. Dr Colliver has been practicing Regenerative Medicine techniques in the New River Valley since 2009.
Stem cells are a revolutionary approach to medicine, ranging from heart problems to orthopedic conditions and more. Stem cells are found throughout the body and are can repair or regenerate damaged tissues like cartilage, bone, muscle, tendon, and possibly nerves. Through a process of harvesting and then concentrating stem cells, they can be used to treat many common spine and sports related conditions.
Platelet Rich Plasma
Platelets are the first cells to respond to an injury and are full of growth factors that initiate the repair process. Concentrating the platelets can help repair and regenerate chronic injuries and promote more complete healing of acute injuries.
Injection of an irritant (dextrose sugar) into an injured structure (joint, tendon, or ligament) can promote healing and pain relief. We believe the sugar acts to initiate an inflammatory response, which is necessary for the healing cascade. Studies have shown efficacy in tendon problems like tennis elbow and may help in osteoarthritis knee pain.
Tendons seldom develop tendonitis; in stead, they often undergo degeneration like an arthritic knee. Degenerated tendons have stalled in the normal healing process and begin to break down with time. Making tiny punctures, with a needle, at the site of injury can help restart the healing process and free the tendon from surrounding scar tissue.
